ITINERARY:

Day 1~Transfer to Selingan Island & TURTLE PROGRAMME

Firstly, the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary is a special place located 40 km north of Sandakan, off the east coast of Sabah. Besides, this sanctuary includes three islands: Pulau Selingaan, Pulau Bakkungaan Kecil, and Pulau Gulisan. Also, the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary is known for its important work in protecting two endangered sea turtles: the green turtle and the hawksbill turtle.

Then, at the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary, both turtle species lay eggs all year round. Also, the green turtle, weighing up to 160 kg, is one of the largest sea turtles. Sadly, these turtles are endangered due to poaching, as people seek their eggs as a delicacy. Female green turtles dig trenches in the sand to lay between 80 and 165 eggs.

In addition, the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary is home to the hawksbill turtle. This smaller turtle has a carapace length of 70-90 cm. It lays 100 to 180 eggs per clutch before returning to the sea.

When you arrive, we will pick you up from Sandakan Airport or your hotel and transfer you to the jetty. At 9:30 AM, the boat departs for the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary. The boat ride takes about an hour to reach Selingan Turtle Island.

Selingan Island, part of the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary, is the main nesting site for green turtles. After lunch, you can relax, swim, or snorkel in the warm, clear waters surrounding the island. Later, the Park Ranger will announce a turtle sighting. Once spotted, you will have the chance to watch the turtle lay its eggs. Moreover, the Ranger will then collect and transfer the eggs to the hatchery for protection. Finally, you will see baby turtles make their way to the sea as the Rangers release them into the wild.

By visiting the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary, you contribute to wildlife conservation efforts while enjoying the beauty of nature.

Day 2~ Transfer Out & Meet orangutan at Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre.

HIGHLIGHT:>

• SEPILOK ORANGUTAN REHABILITATION CENTRE

After breakfast, we depart at 7:00 AM and head back to Sandakan. First, we visit the famous Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre, located in the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Furthermore, the experience begins with a short documentary that explains the rehabilitation process of orphaned orangutans.

Next, we walk along the boardwalk through the lush rainforest to the feeding platform. Later, at 10:00 AM, we’ll watch the orangutans being fed. Moving on, this is a unique chance to see them up close in their natural habitat.

Afterward, we transfer you to Sandakan Airport or your hotel, depending on your travel plans. Thereafter, this trip connects you to the Island Turtles & Orangutan Sanctuary, where you can enjoy the beauty of nature and witness efforts to protect both orangutans and turtles. Besides, the sanctuary offers an incredible opportunity to learn about wildlife conservation and witness the fascinating creatures that call this place home.
