As well, the cave’s towering walls and unique rock formations make it a breathtaking sight.
Next, we begin the City Tour with a visit to Sandakan Memorial Park. Besides, this historic site stands next to the original Sandakan Prisoner of War (POW) Camp. It honors the prisoners who suffered during World War II. Walking through the park helps visitors understand its deep history. The peaceful surroundings offer a moment for reflection.
After that, we visit The Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple. This beautiful temple sits on a steep hill, offering a stunning view of Sandakan Bay and the Town Centre. The red and gold decorations make it a striking sight. Inside, the peaceful atmosphere invites visitors to relax and reflect. The fresh air and quiet surroundings add to the temple’s charm.
Then, we head to St. Michael’s Church, a century-old building where Christianity has been preached for generations. Its stained-glass windows and stone walls showcase stunning architecture. The church’s history provides insight into Sandakan’s past. Visitors can admire its peaceful interior and learn about its role in the community.
Next, we explore the Central Market, a lively place filled with fresh seafood and produce. Also, the market bursts with colors, smells, and sounds. Walking through the stalls gives a glimpse into the daily life of Sandakan’s people. Vendors sell everything from tropical fruits to handmade goods, making it a great place to experience local culture.
Later, we visit the Agnes Keith Museum to learn about colonial life. Agnes Keith, a well-known author, wrote three famous books: Land Below the Wind, Three Came Home, and White Man Returns. Her husband, Harry Keith, was Sabah’s first forestry conservator. The museum displays their life and contributions to Sabah. Walking through the exhibits brings their fascinating story to life.
