Day 1: Klias Wetland Proboscis Monkey & Fireflies Safari

Firstly, transfer from the airport to your accommodation. Next, proceed to Klias in the Beaufort district. Upon arrival at the dock, attend a safety briefing and enjoy some refreshments before starting your river cruise in search of wildlife. Additionally, this area is home to the indigenous proboscis monkey, also known as the long-nosed monkey, which can often be spotted along the riverbanks.

For your reference, this region is part of the largest Klias Wetland Sanctuary in Sabah. Moreover, it hosts a diverse range of bird species, including migratory birds. You may also have the opportunity to observe pig-tailed and long-tailed macaques, as well as the rare silver langur and water buffaloes. As the cruise continues, enjoy the breathtaking views until sunset.

After returning to the jetty, experience a spectacular natural display as fireflies illuminate the trees along the river.

Dinner: Served on the jetty before returning to Kota Kinabalu. Stay overnight at Kota Kinabalu Hotel.

Day 2 : Mari-Mari Cultural Village Tour

On this day, we will visit Mari-Mari Cultural Village for a half-day sightseeing and educational experience. You will have the opportunity to learn about traditional bamboo cooking, fire-making, hunting with a blowpipe, and many other fascinating customs. Following this, you will be picked up from your accommodation and transferred to Mari-Mari Cultural Village, located just 25 minutes from the city.

In the afternoon, upon arrival, step back in time to ancient Borneo through a mesmerizing display of unique indigenous architecture, reenacted daily life, and ritualistic ceremonies. Soon after, you will be welcomed into the homes of different ethnic communities of Sabah, where you can engage with each tribe and immerse yourself in their rich cultural heritage.

Additional Experiences:

Explore the demonstration huts, where the traditional lifestyle of the Sabahan people comes to life. Witness captivating displays, including blowpipe crafting, fire-starting using bamboo, and traditional tattoo-making, while gaining insight into their symbolic meanings. Additionally, experience the thrill of jumping for a “prize” on the Lansaran, a traditional trampoline-like platform.

Moreover, sample authentic Sabahan delicacies from different ethnic groups, including Montoku (rice wine), and observe the fascinating technique of bamboo cooking. Conclude the visit with an entertaining cultural performance by the tribes before indulging in a delightful traditional meal.
