Day 2 ~Sepilok / Kinabatangan

🌿 Sandakan Wildlife & Nature Tour – Day 2 Experience

Firstly, start your second day of the Sandakan Wildlife & Nature Tour early. Next, after enjoying your breakfast, get ready to leave Selingan Turtle Island by boat.

🚤 7:00 AM – Boat Ride to the Mainland

First, you will depart from the island by motorboat at 7:00 AM.
For your reference, the ride takes about 1 hour, and you will arrive at the Sandakan jetty by 8:00 AM.

🦧 Visit Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

Next, you will head to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, another highlight of the Sandakan Wildlife & Nature Tour.

Upon arrival, you will first watch a short 20-minute video.
Also, this video explains the purpose of the centre and how it helps baby orangutans grow strong and healthy.

Then, you will walk to the feeding platform.

Day 3 ~ Oxbow Lake / Kinabatangan

At 0600 hours, take another boat trip, this time, in search of birdlife aggressively plundering the river for food, birds abound in all shapes and forms. Back to the lodge for breakfast thereafter take a jungle walk to the ox-bow lakes. The lakes are the abode of freshwater fish, otters and sometime – wild elephants may be sighted. Trek back to the lodge just in time for lunch and you have your own activities until 1600 hours for another boat trip along the river. Overnight at Bilit.

Day 4 ~ Gomantong Cave / Sandakan City Tour

After breakfast, we depart to Gomantong cave. The heartland of the Gomantong Rainforest Reserve have been the focus for birds’ nests for centuries. There are two cave complexes – Simud Hitam (Black Cave) soaring up to 90 metres high and the more accessible of the two, and Simud Putih (White Cave), where the more valuable nests are found. The resident creatures of the caves include swiftlets (from which the nests are collected) and bats among others. Outside, other birds such as serpent eagles, bat hawks and kingfishers can be seen. Arrival at Sandakan town, you be brought for city tour which is rich with historical value. For an unrivalled panoramic view of Sandakan bay and a look at its newest temple, a visit should be made to the extravagantly ornate Puu Jih Shih Buddhist Temple, on the hill-top above Tanah Merah south of Sandakan town center.
